Cool, I like the polished engine cover look, go for it 
if it ever starts to look tarnished and you can't be bothered to polish it then you can paint it again 
There is definatly something very enjoyable about working on the bike isn't there. Can be a nightmare when it gets expensive or you can't find a problem or things break or don't go to plan but it's all part of that rush you get at the end when you've overcome the problems and put your own stamp on the bike.
