Calm down dear
Obviously its not a complete waste, I assumed that most people would understand that was an exaggeration
Having fun while driving isn't necessarily all about going fast and racing on the roads. What about general exploration and the adventures of exploring some strange new road you've never driven before? If we were confined to only manual driving on tracks then we'd all get pretty bored pretty soon after going around Silverstone for the millionth time :\
I disagree with the latter statement - if we as a race survive long enough for that to become an actual problem I would damn well hope that hover cars or anti-gravity systems were in existence to overcome this problem :lol
You want to explore places... get a bicycle or a motor bike. Cars take up too much room and are environmentally unsound when they only contain a single person. The weekly shop will get delivered anyway... I can see a time when there won't be cars.
Anti gravity ? I can see the day they discover this being the day everything on earth floats in to space or the Earth stops spinning :-P ... and yes that was sarcasm.
Hover cars would be massively impractical, why use energy lifting people off the ground when wheels work so well ? (Obviously for short distances). I can see maglev or something like that working but why bother when you have self driving cars which can go in convoy to save fuel and improve aerodynamics whilst eradicating congestion?
It wouldn't do I'd we were all the same, I'm glad that there are people like deadeye who can have their flights of fancy and work to make it a reality.

You missed my point, I was being deliberately pedantic. Its fantastic engineering and a damn good idea but I just loathe the idea that we won't be in control of our driving experience.
As for my exploration point - there are plenty of justifications for using a car over a motorbike. This may be a forum focused on motorcycling but I still love cars and will continue to do so. There's still plenty of road out there that has next to no traffic so its not like congestion is an issue.
Hover cars would be awesome! One of your initial complaints was congestion and traffic - hover cars mean you gain a 3rd dimension of space with minor (if any) requirement of additional infrastructure. I'm thinking of things like scenes from the likes of Fifth Element and Star Wars (not space ships before you try to be a wise-ass). I have optimistic hopes but the reality is we'll probably kill ourselves off before hand...
I guess I'm glad for people like simonm - they make forum boards more interesting over random topics :lol
