My friend who has a Fazer 1000, 11 plate also found his seat too hard and had it upholstered by a company called motorbike-seats. He sent both rider and pillon seats to the company who padded out the riders seat with a 'gelastic pad' insert and then covered both seats with a lovely looking basket weave fabric and finished it off with red pipeing. A nice finish and now much more comfier than the original. Costs about £160 but calling the company I'm sure you'd get a quote.
Other options to look at are corbin or sargent seats which are I think a bit more expensive. These are nicer but more expensive options to a pad sitting on top of the seat but i'm sure all are better options than the original one.
I've not done anything yet to the seat but will probably look at getting the pad insert in the seat from motorbike-seats.
The vibration on the bike seems to have settled down and looking to carry out the first service of an oil and filter change.
