Hi Dooz,

I'm not an expert but in the absence of any other replies I'll chip in.

First thing that sprang to mind reading your post was tight spots in the chain - they can develop suddenly and when I've had them they've sounded and felt exactly as you describe.

But it sounds like you've taken reasonable steps to rule that out, so if you're sure it's not the chain then I'd maybe consider a quick oil change.

Couple of reasons. Firstly it can't hurt, and you never know it might help, even if you go for cheap oil. Just something to try given the location of the problem.

Secondly you can take the opportunity to carefully inspect the old oil for any swarf or other debris, and also check it's colour etc. Might provide some useful diagnostic info.

Maybe the old oil has failed in some way, or become emulsified, and is not properly lubricating?

Just an idea for something to try.
