clunking gearbox
#1
Hi guys

I have owned my 2001 Fazer 600 for 4-years and it has 15,000 miles on the clock, of which I have done 11,000. A week ago in Germany, I started to get a clunking at walking pace. I could hear the clunking and feel it through the footrests and handlebars. The frequency of clunking increases with engine speed and as I change up the box. At motorway speeds the frequency becomes a high pitched vibration which sends my hands numb. It is getting worse.
I have checked the chain tension / lubrication and both are ok (scot-oiler fitted). The chain looks as though it has one or two tightish links but is ok. The rear sprocket is ok. The gearbox sprocket is slightly hooked but I have seen worse. The gearbox sprocket nut was tight, very tight, I guess it is as it left the factorty.
I took out the rear wheel and took off the gearbox sprocket and pulled the chain out of the way. When I fired the bike up the clunking is there exactly the same. It seems to be from the output shaft bearing area although it could be the output shaft itself.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
