You can install an adblocker and/or in Chrome you can right click, inspect element and then look at Network to see what the network utilisation damage was and what caused it.
For example this page was 20.2KB and loaded in 656ms. with the main elements being quote.gif taking 328ms and the initial response from the page load of 229ms.
The Fuelly link in my sig takes 488ms to load which probably indicates I should remove it
