That's a sure sign of a blocked system when that happens, time for the Radflush.
It shouldn't dump coolant with a clear system and correct fluid levels.

Yeah if all is well it's not going to happen because the fan will kick in and it won't overheat. But if there's a problem like the fan's not working, or the thermostat's not working , or you're losing pressure or it's blocked like you said then it will over flow if it gets too hot that's why the expansion bottle is there
