I think some of this good tyre thing is psychological - if you believe in the tyres you're on, you'll get on with them better. Same thing works for riding in general. If you're confident in your abilities, you'll be able to go faster/corner harder etc.
Maybe not the ultimate in wet weather grip (if you believe the marketing hype about the latest generation of tyres) but available cheaper now.
