Yes: sit on the bike, start her up. Go for a ride, gass it. Then stop for a beer. Than gass it home. After you spend July, August and September in that manner, if you still care about what the bloody down pipes look like - you'll have plenty of time for polishing during the winter.

I'd go with paint polishing paste to make them nice and smooth, unless you're planning on painting them over. I'd also try some Balistol soaking first, to remove rust (if there is any).
