Welcome to the forum.
Getting shorter dog legs will raise the rear a bit, it will have quite a minimal effect on handling. Think it makes the bike tip in faster to turns if i remember correctly.
Put an add up in the wanted/sale section and see if anyone has a set you could buy and try them, if you don't like them then you can always swap them again.
