unless you've a charging issue then as you say shouldnt be battery, unless its a bad connection to battery, or like you said in 1st post an earth problem.

Get a voltmeter over battery and see what its doing when you hit the pass button? (oh thats another thought, put dipped on and then use the mainbeam switch, see what happens then)
