Thanks for all the replies some real helpful stuff here. In an ideal world, I would keep the Fazer and have both but it's one or the other so a pretty big decision. Interesting the TDM 850 was mentioned because I've looked at them a bit too and like them but it has to be a proper single cylinder, they're a bit out of my price range too as I have about £1400-1500 to spend if all goes well with selling the fazer. They're a bit too close to the fazer too and I'm looking for something completely different, has to have the mean off road look too. Jon that's interesting you went through a similar situation, I totally agree they must be hard work on A roads but I rarely go on A roads and the fact you say it was the best bike you owned and just a big grin machine is exactly what I'm after.
Chris I agree the FMX is a beautiful bike and goes like stink for what it is but unfortunately it's out of my price range. From all the reviews etc I have read I am narrowing it down to the DR 650 and MZ Baghira tbh which uses the XT 660 engine in an upgraded package with excellent durability. They're physically the largest too which is good for me. That's a nice husky in the pic, my dad wants to go touring in Wales soon and tbh I don't really see why I would have any issues on a big thumper, I rarely do over 80mph anyway and anything below that on them is fantastic. I'll just remember to keep an eye on the fuel haha because the tanks are small, good mpg though. Tbh I am already decided it's just a matter of time, I need a test ride though really.
