ear plugs popped up in an earlier post, can't remember the outcome though, i seem to get problems with them & would love an alternative to using nothing,
a search online for alternatives produced 'ear canal caps' which i'm tempted to try as they don't fully go into the ear but instead block off the entrance, not quite as effective at noise reduction as plugs but then still offer the ability to hear something rather than totally losing one of the senses.
problem i can see is that they have a plastic, albeit small head band which ensures the pressure and keeps them against the ears & im dubius as to having hard plastic so close to the head in an impact.
the same idea but using a thin fabric head band could work but they dont seem to exist.
anyway here's a link:-
