I found the FZS to be a brilliant starter bike, easy to step up to from the direct access machine with extra grunt if you need it. I've not outgrown it in nearly three years of ownership and have no intention of selling when I get another bike. One of the better parts of owning one is the support this forum offers.
FZS600 problems:
Front sprocket issues that Yam admitted to at the time but has since fallen into legend that few dealers recall:
