Think yourself lucky. My son insured his own w reg first 1.2 for £1000 as a provisional driver in December 2011. Passed his test in August 2012 and had to pay £1600 more to cover himself till December 2012!

With a years no claims he is now paying £1400.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again
