I agree to go back to the station, but good luck with the superior officer bit. Ask specifically for a traffic officer, and you can't go wrong. Get him to look at the tyre and use a tyre tread wear guage. If all is in order, he should be able to cancel the VDRS.

Im assuming he gave your son a VDRS form?
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!
