Personally skippernick I'd keep the performance can on. I do believe that louder pipes definitely save lives. Makes a difference when filtering.
As for VOSA carrying the decimeters, well it was a long time ago when I got pulled at the bikesafe stop, so if you know any different Deeffer then that's fair enough. The rules do change on a regular basis.
As for cops stopping you, well they dont need a reason. And you can get a ticket on the spot for a defective silencer/not marked road legal amongst other 'offences'. A specially trained traffic cop can take your bike off the road for anything that's deemed unroadworthy. Bald tyre/brake pads/dodgy lights that sort of thing. It's a tricky, complicated set of rules that revolve around traffic law. Not really my cuppa.
