would like some advice on travel for first time

I've been to the south on my trusty fazer.
As Fraser says, the Ring of Kerry is beautiful (Apparently) When I rode round it, I had some of Irelands 'special' rain. Sideways, by the skip full! Take good waterproofs, whatever the time of year. All I saw was tarmac that day sadly!
I stayed at the Clontarf in Dublin. It's biker friendly, with underground secure parking.
The people are very friendly towards bikers I found
