Since moving to Wales I can honestly say that there is zero chance of them ever becoming independant.
Everything of note that we have discovered in Wales was either thought of, or done by, an English person - up to and including the resurrection in their schools of the Welsh language.
Culturally they don't seem to be on the same wavelength as the rest of the country (not better or worse - just different). It's a bit like it was in the 80's (albeit without the mining). In some ways this is better - their kids seem a lot happier overall (until they get older and having nothing to do and no jobs).
It makes us laugh when we walk into a local shop and they suddenly switch from English to Welsh
There have been quite a few really friendly Welsh people, but the vast majority seem to have quite a large chip on their shoulders.
