It does surprise me how blinkered people are these days. The truth of the matter is that if you have owned a smart phone in the last 10 years there is a good chance it has some HTC technology in it.
They started off making parts for other phone companies and then moved into phones themselves.
As a quick example the o2 XDA range and the Orange SPV were made by HTC as was the original Google phone the Nexus One..
As I said before I would wait for the one X+ because it has a more powerful cpu and will come with jellybean from the off.
Just a note on battery life on the one X, I charge mine every night but it will just about last 2 days. But as all phones this depends on your personal usage.
I had a HTC desire before the one X and had no problems with it. I also found upgrading it to the official 2.3.3 rom from HTC developer site improved it as well.
