Don't know if you've ever tuned 2-strokes but does the term 'motor boating' mean anything to you?
If you've slightly over-enlarged the pilot bypass holes, on a closed throttle at low rpm you might get something which is best described as a sort of gurgling in the intakes. Sounds like something's out of whack but the instant you crack the throttle, everything cleans up and the motor pulls clean and true.
