I have had trapped nerve and back pain on and off for the last 9 years. After a while the pain killers don't work, as said before you need to treat the cause not the symptom and get the nerve un-trapped.
A friend of mine who was suffering the same suggested a Shiatsu massage rack, well worth the small cost for the quick relief it gives. You have you be careful from now on as your back has become weak, see a physiotherapist (or look on line) for core strength exercises.
