Ive also got a 3 degree ignition advancer fitted, so setting my tps to 5k is correct!!

What Pat describes on his site is Ivan's method.
I've tried 'em all, as you can imagine.Without an ignition advancer, you get much the same outcome using either Ivan's method or the 5-10k flicker on tacho approach.
With the advancer, I set mine at 5k rpm on the tacho.
