My understanding is that the service intervals are every 6000miles anyway so its due a change 
There are lots of recommendations/theories/opinions on the correct oil for any bike and some even use diesel oils :\ .
The viscosity and components are the most important parts. Stick with a semi-synthetic in a 10W30 or 10W40.
The SE, SF stuff is just the API Classification (industry classification for quality/grading)
