Either way it's an engine-out, crankcase-split job to get it fixed.
A second hand engine may be the cheaper option unless you do the work yourself.
I can do the work myself - there doesn't seem to be much metal in the oil so it may just be something bent but it does feel very notchy - will haul the engine out over the weekend.....
