... and off to north Devon on Friday morning for a four day tour on the bike..

Nice! I go to Croyde every year for a surfing holiday and there's some lovely roads and countryside there.

Anyone know any good roads down that way? lookes like the A39 is favourite

I see you're coming from Wales, so definitely ride the A39 along the north coast from Bridgwater to Barnstaple and on to Bude (or beyond), especially the sections around Porlock and Lynmouth for hairpin bends

From Bude you can head east on the A3072 to Exeter or down the B3254 to Launceston and then take the A30 to Exeter. You could even head a bit further down into Cornwall on the B3254 to Liskeard, then take the A38 east to Plymouth and pick up the A386 which will lead you to the B3212 across Dartmoor and back to Exeter.

There's lots of others, though, such as the A377 from Exeter to Barnstaple and the A396 from Exeter to Minehead. Also check out the B2332, B3234 and B3227 across Exmoor.

It's a bit late now, but I'd recommend picking up a copy of The Best Rides Motorcycle Atlas which highlights a lot of these roads.
