Several times when I've been about to go out on a ride, I've doneĀ some basic stretching exersises and this does seem to help more than just jumping on the bike. Its amazing how much effort you put into riding a bike, especially if you're prentending to be a moto gp rider!
Having said that, i too, occasionally suffer from cramp/pain at the top of my legs where they join my hips, this usually happens if I've been out on a bimbling ride. My answer to that is to ride like a twat every where :lol
