I've just done some looking online and it seems that although the authorities have put up signs warning truck drivers about the road, they haven't actually banned them despite repeated accidents.
It seems that the trucks tend to end up on there because maps don't show the curves, Sat Navs pick it as the shortest route and, worst of all, some dispatchers send trucks up there *despite* having been repeatedly warned that it's totally unsuitable for them.

After a fatality last year there's a petition here demanding change which I've signed to help other bikers.
