Since the tyre question seems to have been answered here is another thought. On the motorway we call the lanes nearest the centre the outside lanes. Surely they are the inside lanes and the hard shoulder is on the outside  :'( .

How so? Stick with the near side is the kerb, and you're supposed to drive on that side if not overtaking (there's a whole other thread :lol ), and you move out to overtake - to the outside. Simples  :angel
