1998 vs 2002 clutch
#1
Hi!

Can I use the clutch (outer basket, inner basket, springs, bearings) from a 2002 FZS on my 1998 bike? I noticed that the springs on the '98 model are smaller than the ones on the 2002 model and by some info that I found here Yamaha changed those springs but thats all they changed?

The metal clutch plates have a specific orientation to go in?  I noticed that one of the sides has sharper edges.

My 98 model rattles a lot and mabybe this 2002 set helps reducing that issue.

Short answer is yes. The steel plates usually go sharp side in, but it is more important that they all go the same direction. Use the later model springs, but no not go for the uprated stronger springs like EBC supply as they ruin the smooth clutch and wear the hinge on the actuator in the clutch cover prematurely.
