Fazer FZS 600, 2001 model
#1

Hi all,

I just signed up for this forum.
I am Dutch and moved to Norway in 2015.
In Norway I could not find a Fazer forum but fortunately I found this forum  Smile

Just now I have bought a used Fazer FZS600, 2001.
In the Netherlands I have had several motor bikes, most recently the Yamaha FJR1300.
I never expected to buy a motorcycle again ( I am 61 and thought “next life” )
But, blood creeps where it can not go  Smile

I have found the Fazer 600 to restart.
Movie made by seller https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMaUTzzDNnI).
As already mentioned, my previous bike in the Netherlands was a Yamaha FJR1300 and they run like a sewing machine.
This Fazer has much more mechanical noise.
At first I had doubts that there was something wrong with the timing chain or clutch but the seller assured me that it is in perfect condition.
And, I have 2 months warranty.

What do you think?.

Sounds good and normal to me. Ticking over sweetly and throttle response is good and sharp.  Smile
I would check your oil level, it sounded vaguely hollow to me. Just start the engine for one minute before switching off, you want the oil to settle nearer the upper level marking next to the sump oil window.

And i heard an intermittent knocking noise as well which resembled the front indicators vibrating on the fairing, it's not a problem just annoying (to me).  :lol

Thanks darrsi,

I thought that knocking sound perhaps was the clutch or timechain ( read on the internet that many changed the time chain already after 25000km).
Next Thursday I will get the bike and check if it is only the front indicators.
Will let know

A very nice, very clean looking bike. it sounds ok to me. The idle is higher than it should be (seems to be about 1500 when it should be 1150-1250.
Adjust the idle down and check for noises at the correct speed.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again

No, engine wise it sounded very good. That knocking has a definite plastic sound to it. It really resembles the front indicators vibrating on the fairing. If it isn't that the next place i would check would be to see if the spring clips are secure and in place on the headlight bulbs. An unsecured bulb can rattle/knock as well with vibration, but they wont go anywhere as the rubber rain caps keeps them from falling out. Would most likely be the H4 bulb on the right side, when sitting on the bike.
