Same here, need to get out on bike, go for a meal, take grand kids out. Sick of queueing to get into shops and then queueing to get back out !
How people with no gardens or hobbies/ interests are coping I don't know.
Anyway, got my Covid 19 test results back and it was negative . But what bug did I have then?
Had dry cough, headache, muscle and joint pain and temp was 37.8, ( not sure how accurate thermometer is though ) , all meant to be symptoms of Covid 19.
Wonder how many people have had those symptoms, thought they had Covid 19 but haven't ?

Good news :thumbup . Most likely culprit is the flu. More good news is your are talking in the past tense.
Here’s a thought. Many (untested) people who say they have had Covid19 may have had the flu. Most people who say they have the flu have a cold. The last time I had the flu it scared the shit out of me and I now take a flu jab every year.

I also thought I'd had the flu a few times in the past until I got it 2 years ago,I couldn't believe how bad I felt,I actually thought I had pneumonia! at times I swear you could ring the sheets out and next minute you were freezing cold and so weak I couldn't get out of bed. When the quack said I'd had the flu I didn't believe him,I never thought it was that bad and obviously never had it before.I also have the flu jab now, never want that again. :eek

Yeah, it makes me smile when people say they've got 'a touch of flu' You don't get a touch of flu. it knocks you for six, puts you in bed and makes you wonder how you can survive feeling so ill. I had it in my teens and still remember it vividly.
I've had flu twice that i can most certainly recall, which was around the Millennium time in 2000, because i remember not being able to go out for two weeks and on Dec.31st i was in front of a fireplace with a quilt around me sweating buckets but shivering as if i was in the North Pole.
The other time, again ill for a couple of weeks, was in 2010, and this time round was when i lost my sense of taste and smell, and they have never returned since then.
I've been using the C-19 app as well for a few weeks now and was recently not feeling so good even though i'd been properly isolating, and i got an invite to take a test which i took up yesterday.
This test is offered by the Department Of Health, and alarm bells are triggered if a certain combination of symptoms are reported. When you get the results i presume it's then down to you to feed the data back into the daily app to update these records.
I'm not classed as an Essential Worker, so i got listed as a Volunteer, and they do say they will also be sending people for tests that they know won't have the virus.
As a Volunteer it seemed to me like the Home Testing Swab Kit wasn't an option that i could see, i could only visit a testing centre, which was no big deal.
Just a heads up, you can't get tested on a motorbike at these centres.
They are extremely well controlled and organised, but in a car you have to keep the windows completely shut, due to the fact that you're entering a zone where the virus could be much more prevalent than normal. On entry AND at the testing bay they will use a scanner to scan a barcode they send you on your phone, plus when registering for the test you need to put down who's in the car for a test and the Reg. Plate number for quick and easy I.D.
You get to select a 30min time slot, and mustn't be too early, or late. I think we were there for 25mins in total, and there were 2 cars in front of us.
The test itself was not very pleasant to be honest. Sticking your tongue right out, saying aaaaahhh, then having someone hit the uvula at the back of your throat with a swab nearly made me chuck up twice. Then for good measure they shove a swab right up your hooter too.
Once done though you should get the results normally within 48hrs, but anything up to 5 days if it's very busy.
I'm 99.9% certain i will show up Negative when i get my result.
The only downside to this particular test is that it only shows Positive if you 'currently' have the virus.
If you have already had the virus, but then recovered, it will still show up as a Negative.
The other test however (possibly available soon at a cost) is the Antibody one, which shows if you have antibodies in your system from previously trying to fight off an infection which then stay in your body in case they're needed again in the future.
Get a Positive reading for that one and you have a green light as "theoretically" you should now be immune. This is not 100% guaranteed that you can't be infected again, due to the way that viruses mutate, but even still your body would most certainly cope with any reinfection much better than it would have done without these antibodies, without a doubt.
If the price is sensible i will have a go at one of these tests as i do have a strong feeling that i've previously had the virus and recovered, due to having every main symptom going at the end of last year, which then resulted in me being very ill for around 7 days.
As it was Common Cold/Flu season i just dealt with it at home though, as we always do, without any need for bothering a doctor.

Survived another day so should finish painting the garden fence today. Should have been setting of on Sunday for a week of touring Scotland. Big change in the weather with Arctic conditions being forecast so that lessons the pain of not going a bit.
I had the Flu once--back in 1968 and it knocked hell out of me, never had that type of flu ever again, had colds and chest infections since, but never anything like that Flu.
Any idea why bikes aren't allowed? I don't have any other transport and I live in the arse-end of nowhere when it comes to testing (a friend of mine was told she would have to travel 2 hours to get tested), so if I did need to get tested the fazer's my only choice.

I would imagine it has to do with the helmet. You would need to remove it to give them access for the test which in turn would require you to be in proximity for too long. As I understand it the tests are done through your car window and take less than 30 seconds, you literally pull up, get tested then drive away.
I couldn't see why you couldn't do it with an open face helmet though ? of course your more at risk riding there and back with one of those budy things though haha

I can only guess it's because you're going into a potentially hazardous environment, and we were not allowed to put our windows down at all until the car was stopped at the testing bay.
Also on a busy day in bad weather you may slow things up when they need to keep scanning your phone.
Unfortunately it's not as quick as suggested either.
Two of us got tested, and each time they need to confirm your details, organise a receipt for you, get appropriate paperwork sorted per person, then the test itself, etc.

And glad to hear the good news darrsi ?

There are signs all over to keep your windows closed at all times, you open it only when told to do so. I was told to open it so they could hand me a tissue to blow my nose, they don't want bogies all over the swab, and had to close it while I blew my nose, then told to open it again so they could do the throat and nose swabs. Then immediately had to close it again. They even scanned the code for the test through the closed window, it is to lessen the risk of the staff being potentially exposed to the virus as there will obviously be some people being tested who are positive.
When I booked my slot there was a option to do an at home test, but it would have to be posted to you and then posted back, how long would that take?
Also with a home test how could you be sure that you had done it correctly, as darrsi says it is a bit uncomfortable when they do it as they get the swab quite far.

Personally I would've preferred a home test kit, but after trying for one I got to the end of the registration form and it said I needed to use a test station.
Home kits are dealt with by couriers, it wouldn't take long for results i reckon.

Thanks guys, I was mostly just curious. I have a modular helmet, so I'd be able to flip the front up for the testing, but I'd have a hell of a job trying to blow my nose with it closed....

We’ve got anti-body tests at work. There may be different types of anti-body test. I enquired last week about being tested. I don’t meet the criteria. I had symptoms that fit covid19 at the end of February and beginning of March. The test we have must be carried out within 14 days of recovery.
Virologists expect that people would have at least three months immunity after having had Covid19. It might turn out to be life time immunity, or just the three months.
As for fighting the infection a second time having a better outcome than the first time – who knows – better if you still have the anti-bodies, but how long will you have them for?
Can’t help thinking about shingles. You first get it as chickenpox, but it stays in your body after you recover. Then it can reappear as shingles. I’ve had shingles twice. The first time it was nasty, but after two weeks I recovered and wondered what all the fuss was about. Last year I got it again, took me four weeks to recover, and the thought of ever having it again doesn’t bear thinking about – it was foccin absolute hell.
as title just checking in....ive had 6 wks of furlough and been back at work for 3 weeks now,a full week next week and then over the next 8 weeks i will be taking another 4 weeks on furlough due to lack of work, half the work force on the other half off...that will take me into august, cant see orders picking up by then so iam guessing that will be extended with my employer picking up part of the furlough payment...only two of us in my department, the other guy is coming up for retirement in 8 weeks time, hes been in this trade for 51 years and could well finish his time on furlough...not the best way to finish 51 years of service...
