Speedo Angel.  Just wanted something to protect the TFT from scratches and other premanent marks, R1200R forum users recommended Speedo Angel.
My fitting technique not quite 100% perfect but then the camera really shows up every single mark.  But looks fine in practise - will soon see what it's like in daylight.

Cheers bud.  Not bought a bike for 16 years, so I figured I could justify splashing ooot a wee bit.
I wanted it in place for the spring.  And it is.  Just a bit frustrating now - the gritters are back oot again.
It's sitting there ready to go - just being brand new I don't wanna subject her to salt and grit.

Polished it today Big Grin  Thought I'd give the battery a wee charge too.  Looked under the seat - no sign of it.  No idea where it is.
Returned the Evotech radiator gurad that didn't fit and ordered an R&G one - fingers crossed.  Don't why so many bike manufactuerers now leave them bare and exposed.

I'll need to refer to the owners manual.

I wonder if it's one of those small Lithium ones you can put upside down in a really hidden away spot,be interesting to see where it is.

I’ve found it! 8)  It’s sort of low down under the tank.  Under the side cover below your knee I guess.  It’s a bit tight in there.  So, I referred to the owner’s manual, it tells me I should charge it using a motorad CANbus charger via the charging socket.  It doesn’t tell me where the charging socket is.  Grrr.  But I get the impression the charging socket is actually the accessories power socket.  Anyway, I have asked a question on the R1200R forum just to be sure to be sure.  I think I need an optimate4 which with luck will come with the CANbus socket (I hope).  I’m pretty sure it’s lead acid – lithum would have been nice.

Can take a photo in due course if you wanna see the location.

Dash shows 11.7v  - not great but hopefully in a few days’ time it will be on charge. It’s a fitted with a tracker – so maybe that slowly drains the battery.

R&G radiator guard now fitted.  I’ve had the horrible large plastic self-tapping type screws out and back into the fan frame more times than I would care for through faffing about with radiator grills.  But it’s sorted now.

R&G radiator grill fitted.  Cos of the faffing about with the Evotech grill I've now had the horrible self tapping style screws out and back into the fan frame more times than I would care for.  So the grill is now on and staying on.
Went for the titanium finnish rather than plain black -again just to try and give the overall blackness of the bike a wee lift.

Cheers Tex.  She's still not been out.  The roads are still covered in salt and grit.  Wouldn't normally bother me, but it's just spotless.  And aye it's cold with nae cafes to stop by and warm up in.

I'm now wondering if all it's gonna do is go to and from work due to ever tighter non-essential travel controls.  That's if I'm not sent home from work or made redundant.
What a strange world we now find ourselves in.  And what a time to tae delivery of a brand new bike.

My optimate 4 Can Bus charger arrived today.  Instructions made my head hurt.  But it appears to be doing something and will hopefully keep the battery sweet.

And I thought it was just me.  You should see the foccin instructions.  :eek

I figured out if you sort the charging leads and switch it on it changes mode – so it changed to green lamp only which means standard charging mode.

So, I switched it off, then back on again, and the two lamps at the bottom flashed telling me it was now in Can Bus mode.

I switched it off again, took the short off, but didn’t connect it to anything and switched it on – lots of lights flashed and it ended up with just the green power lamp on.

I switched it off once more, plugged it into the bikes charging socket and switched it on again.  It ended up as per photo.  So, I’m guessing it’s doing it’s stuff.

Phew! :evil

Plan A - Pop the seat off, pop the battery out, charge on bench for half an hour.  Job done.  Hmm - nope - no battery to be seen.

Plan B - Locate battery, pop the battery out, charge on bench, ummm, ah there it is, umm foc that.
Plan C - Purchase optimate, fanny about scratching head and cursing instuctions - plug in - switch on - thank foc - finally sorted.

Quite happy now I've got it figure out.

BMW R1200 / R1200GS CANbus System – What BMW say…
On-board network – CAN-bus technology: With fewer cables than ever, the new on-board network ensures a high standard of reliability plus an even wider range of functions. The single-wire system transmits all relevant data via one single wire to the respective control units. Physically, it is a double-wire system with CAN-bus (Controller Area Network) technology consistently interconnecting all control units and the central vehicle electronics (CVE) to form a permanent data network – the various units exchanging data with each other. Apart from simplifying the main wiring harness it also allows efficient, comprehensive diagnosis of all vehicle functions.

A further advantage is that the system no longer requires conventional fuses. CAN-bus technology automatically switches off the suspect component – where possible – and checks whether the function is still defective when the rider again starts the motorcycle. The network also serves to feed all data to the cockpit display on the info-flat-screen. To easily adapt and integrate electronic accessories into the on-board network, there is a plug for special equipment.
