Drive shaft oil seal replacement
#1
Hi guys
Not been on for a while so ?

My gen 1 1000 has just started to leak from behind the front sprocket. I'm assuming it's the drive shaft oil seal. How much of a job is it? Haven't looked into it too much yet, thought I would seek the advise of one of you foccers!

I'm thinking it could ?be an engine out job to get access. Hope I'm wrong. Will be talking to my friendly mechanic tomorrow or may have a go myself.

I believe you can just pop the oil seal off and replace once you have the sprocket removed . My friend did his r1 4xv (for this job it's the same engine) , only took ten mins.  His had worn out for whatever reason.

That sounds hopefull  Smile  Could do with a bit of luck. Got a couple of projects giving me hassle.  Last thing I needed was my old faithful fazer going sick :'(

More likely the gasket on the shift shaft cover above it, common enough or the R1 and Fazer. Part number was 4XV–15463–00, but replaced by 5JJ-15463-01 much more common than the sprocket seal. Remove the sprocket cover and you will see the oil dripping down from shift shaft cover, about £17 for the gasket seems expensive for a gasket.[table][tr][td]

On inspection I think it is the shift shaft cover gasket. Will  get one ordered and probably get a new oil seal as well .
