Lovely pair

Wish my mrs was into bikes. She loves coming out on pillion, but she’s shit at driving a car and can barely ride a bike lol

my missus wouldn't last five minutes riding her own bike. too aggressive, and too over confident/blasé/ dare I say arrogant even about traffic and road conditions...

Well, I'm looking for one....
A late model, original silencer, bars, windscreen etc, maybe other sensible mods and I'd be happy to pay £3500.
Based North Herts if anyone is selling....

The price of a new bike for me is now totally out of range  and the ridiculous second hand prices are just getting beyond me also.Don't see me selling my FZS any time soon, in fact this may be the last bike I ever own. The only reason I can see to move on is the weight of the bike being a  issue in the future with my back problems.
Just wandering if the price of bikes will fall if and properly when the financial crisis hits us. Will this increase the price of the FZS or not?

I cant see them getting much less. years back I sold my minty mk1 bandit 12 for £1800. they stayed at that price for ages, then started to creep up. Me mate Nick bought a fazer thou from this forum for £2k, like new, with only 14k on the clock on a 02, a couple of months back. . I cant see that ever going down in value. It genuinely rides like a new bike. blokes like me on here who have sorted thous that get used and are now showing around 40k or more wont sell them because we know theres nothing you can replace them with for that money, realistically what would you get for a 40k miles fazer, two grand? bugger that.. Not an absolute indication, but if you look at ebay through the 'completed listings' filter, you'll see that the highest priced bikes aren't shifting (and have been on ebay for ages with repeat auctions). The ones that have sold appear to be in the £1000-£2000 region, with the very occasional minty exception.

Like most people on the site I feel there's nothing that comes close for getting on twice the money they're currently valued at (I quite like the new Versys 1000 but not really *that* much of a quantum leap forward and £7,000 upwards).  The best 1 litre all-rounder with oldskool carbs will eventually regain it's true value...

I was talking to Grant at RAD motorcycles in Northampton about this not long ago. He thought I'd get about £1200 - 1500 if I tried to PX it and I might scrape £2000 if I sold it privately. This is not because of any faults on the bike but because it's done nearly 50K miles, and most people are petrified of "high-milage" bikes.

As he said, why would I sell it for that? The engine is great, it handles well and it's in good cosmetic condition. I've not seen anything more modern that makes me want to change.

So, if you've got a Fazer that has sat in a garage, wrapped in cotton wool, and has low miles, you might get £3000+, but if you use the bike as intended, don't expect to get much for it.

BMCfaz has a point about high mileage bikes, we buy a car with not a lot of thought about mileage,  so why are we so up tight about high mileage bikes?
Surely a bike in great condition with higher mileage is better  than poor condition low mileage one.I my self would not even consider a higher mileage bike, but not with any logic.
At what point would you not buy a higher mileage FZS 1000?Can the FZS 1000 take the higher mileage and at what point would you trade in?
We here love are bikes,  but at what point would we let them go? And is it worth it considering the price we would get for them?

We've all heard about Fazers that have done 100K+ miles without any problems, but you frequently see posts asking for low milers, as though thats a good thing. My thoughts are always WTF has it been doing over the last 15 years or so. Corrosion doesn't stop because you don't use the bike, fuel gums up the carbs and so on, I'd rather have a bike that gets used regularly and is looked after.

The value of mine against something else would be negligable, so I'll continue to keep it in as good condition as i can and run it into the ground. Who knows, in twenty years time it really might be a classic and worth something, but I probably won't be around to see it!

PCP Big Grin  Dealers treat anybody who walks through the door as a potential new bike sale.  And they seem to hate anybody who can actually afford to purchase what they are selling (ie cash buyers).

I reckon new bike prices have risen about 20% since June 2016.  Also importers are trying to hide the true cost.  Gone is the free 600 mile service.  Many now quote the sale price and not the on the road price.  Anything now to hold back that ticket price.

This inevitably drags up used values.  If we foc up and the economy nose dives, well new bike prices will rise further, used prices will rise and dealers will be going bust left right and centre.

Talking of dealers.  Apparently 2018 was a good year.  Maybe it was the good weather, but they bucked the price rises.  I think 2019 could be a tough year for the trade.

Its all about the pcp deals aint it lol. personally, that wouldn't be for me, with bikes I like to feel I actually own it not rent it.My daughter traded a perfectly lovely car worth two grand as a deposit for a pcp deal on a car she will have to give back after three years and payments of £280 a month..makes no sense to me. Ive seen fazers on the bay with 90k plus that still run perfick, so I'm guessing/hoping my silver dream machine (good old david Essex huh) will outlive me

I think it all depends on the deal.  I looked at the finance deal for the MT10, but Yamaha are charging 8.9% APR.  Umm no thanks.

But Honda offers both 0% finance on PCP and HP.  Some dealers are offering a grand off and 0%.  Now if you like the bike that makes sense doesn’t it?  Even if you have the cash you’re gonna take one of those 0% options, unless you can find a dealer to give you 2k off.

The 0% HP is 279 a month for 36 months on a £2255.15 deposit, and that’s the plus model on the list price.  And you can stick the service package on the PCP or HP.

Honda seems to be set up to sell em at the mo.

you seriously thinking of changing your bike mate? or running another alongside it? the mt-10 is I should imagine a cracking tool, and as muc as I hate to admit it, rider aids would be helpful now im old, blind etc etc :lol

Don’t think having bought the thou new in 2004 I could now part with it.  But she is looking a little tired and could do with a wee tidy up.

But hey I haven’t bought a bike since 2004!  So yeah I’m tempted.  Though I have a hard time getting my head round the prices.  They have increased sharply since ******.

I want the same kind of bike again.  An all-rounder.  So MT10 is a possibility.  It ticks a lot of boxes.  But I am a bit wary cos it’s portrayed by so many as something of an animal.  Looks wise, it’s grown on me.  So many crap looking bikes these days.

Talking of an ugly ducking growing into a swan.  Well the new CB1000R looks lovely.  I mean it’s a smashing looking bike.  It’s not got MT10 power but 143hp is more than enough.  Much much better deals on the Honda, but then maybe it won’t hold it’s value like the MT10.

I guess that’s two I should test ride.

the only new un that would tempt me is the trumpet speed twin. Its come out cheaper than I thought it would be too. But I'm dreaming, unless circumstances change. Theres been some issues with that cb1000r...one of the fellers on the cb13forum (Simon) has a mate with one, and its off the road at the mo with a fault thats affected a few that Honda won't sort out. I dunno the details, but probably worth checking out. The mt-10 is a brilliant bike by all accounts, but I just don't dig all that plastic on the front end.

Yeah I thought the street twin looked great when it came out.  But where was the full bhuna option.  So yeah the Speed Twin is tempting.

Hadn’t heard of any CB1000R issues other than a few comments about the paintwork marking.

Sitting on an MT10 everything feels right.  But I don’t want a bike that is impossible to ride normally, or constantly pulls wheelies every time you open the throttle.  But maybe it's all just hyped up.

I guess I should get out there an try some.

Yeah I guess.
Though test rides are short and usually on unfamiliar roads.
But maybe with bikes as sort of similar(ish) but distinctly different like the CB1000R and MT10 a wee test ride might just do the trick.
I’ve googled for CB1000R issues but haven’t come up with anything other than those complaints about the paint.
