Wiring a satnav
#1
Just got a Garmin , does anyone know if you wire direct to battery there's two wires pos and neg fused, or should it be wired to ignition. I already have a USB charger but Sat nav must use the cradle. Thanks

Its up to you, either direct from the battery or a switched live. how is your USB socket wired?

I have a Garmin and wired it to a switched live, just for the peace of mind that if the keys off, then everything else is off.

Thanks robo and Tmation,  the use is switched, the original idea was to plug it in there but it won't fit with the cradle at the sat nav end, I don't think it would drain the battery if I wire it direct if I remove the sat nav ?

I've just wired mine straight to the battery. I tend to remove it from its cradle when I stop anyway. Someone told me they draw very little current, so would take quite some time to drain the bike battery?

I don't know how rigorous the French police are regarding sat navs, but if yours has speed camera alerts on it, then this facility is supposed to be turned off, God knows how you do that. Quite a while back they outlawed having a radar detector in the vehicle, let alone plugged in, and then added the sat nav requirement at a later date. They're taking all the fun out of it :'( .
