Hi all
#1
Hello everyone , was looking for a medium size bike for my 17 year old son to have a go at drag racing. He has been sprinting since he was 12 on 50 80 and most recently a 125cc . this was available for nothing having a problem staying in second gear. Got a spare good gearbox with the deal so hope to sort it soon. need to lighten and lower it etc, so the story begins. cant be many fazers racing up the strip! Gary.

Hi Dragfazer, Welcome to the forum.
Cant say that I have heard of any FZS 600 being used, but it is possible they have, dunno.
The FZS 600 is very willing to please and as such will put a smile on your face, it has plenty of mid range grunt and the 0 - 60 time is very acceptable at well below 4 seconds, play with the final drive gearing and it will have you on the back wheel without having to try.
I have had just about 140 mph out of mine according to my Sat Nav, although the speedo was showing about 5 or 6 mph more. So my top end is Just about 140 certainly no more, but with slightly lowered gearing it just might pull a few more revs in 6th, who knows, would certainly help with the 0 - 60.

Good luck with your endevours Drag.

Oh! I have a 2003 fZS 600 Foxeye, the best bike i have ever owned. I used to ride BSA's, Cotton's, Ariels, Triumphs and numerous others years ago.
I used to get back from 60 or 70 mile rides with white finger cos of the vibrations through the bars jeans black with engine oil where they used to pump oil out of the engine case joints thats with paper gaskets and Red Hermertite  compound, the 4 strokes vibrated so much that the tappet cover were constantly coming either loose or right off, leaving oil everywhere. The Fazer you could do 200 miles on it with no vibration issues and no oil on you, as you have probably guessed I love the machine, it really is the best bike I have ever owned. Reliability, comfort, power, ease of working on (The sort of work I do on it anyway) it put a huge smile on my face when I ride it, and I get about 52 mpg.
The only thing that lets the Fazer 600 down is the handling, it s not bad but it is not inspiring, it lacks a bit of feel and seems to like to run a little wide.
There are a lot of very knowledgeable members in here have given me lots of advise and i am in the throws of upgrading both back and front suspension.
Nitron Race mono shock on the rear. Linear springs weight matched for the sharp end and cartridge emulators. I have on very good authority that it will plant the old girl and tighten it up in the corners.
G :lol :lol D bye chicken strips.

Keep us posted with your progress, if you are sorting the gearbox yourself you have a lot more skills than I do. :lol
Good Luck.
