FZS 1000 end can
#1
Hi, as you can probably see I'm new on the forum as I've only just purchased a Gen 1 1000. What I'd like to know if anyone out there has tried it is will a Fazer 600 Micron (1999) end can fit onto my bike? Only asking as I have the chance to get one at a v. good price! Cheers John.

Hi John and welcome. Smile

The can itself will fit but it's the link pipe that will probably give you problems.  I don't know for sure but I can't recall anyone routinely fitting any make of Fazer 600 aftermarket can to 1000.

Cheers for that, I presumed that the link pipe would be the Achilles Heel but was also unsure if the can would be restrictive on the larger engine.
Do you have any recommendations for a replacement for me to buy? I'm returning to biking after a 10+ years layoff some am a little rusty as to who produces the favoured exhausts these days!

Depends how much you want to spend. Smile

Check ebay regularly for good used bargains.  Akrapovic, Leo Vince, Arrow - the usual higher end quality stuff - come up from time to time.

Fuel and MTC make good cans at a reasonable price.  Shorter cans will tend to rob you of a little low-mid range torque but give a shade more at top end.

Others will be along shortly with their recommendations.  Meanwhile, try the Search feature on the forum as this has been a regular topic over the years and there's a good few photos posted in replies. Smile

In general, the larger the can the quieter it will be whilst still making full power without additional baffle. The smaller cans whilst looking great will be very loud or loose power with DB killer in. The longer the link pipe the more midrange gains you will get  but loose a little at the top end.
In reality,if you are normal, you will spend most of your ridding in the lower half of the rev range  so you won't notice much difference between cans power wise.
So it's down to your budget and how much noise you want to make.
I run with a full race titanium Akrapovic on mine and it passes the MOT each year without issue (not for road use ground off).
