Hardware USB charging lead for Iphone6
#1
Hi, has anyone hard wired a USB socket up for charging an IPhone 6. I intend to use it as SatNav which will eat the battery life.
There are a lot on EBay etc but some people have had trouble with it saying " not authorised device " and failing to charge. I have a USB output on my bedside clock which will not charge my IPhone so don't want to buy something that doesn't work.
Thanks

get a car charger and wire in a socket under your seat or behind the fairing.

You need a higher power USB socket than non Apple phones need.
Get something like a 3 Amp, 15 Watt USB socket with a lead attached that runs to 12V + & - (£8 to £10).
That takes care of the power supply aspect! Smile

Then always use an Apple certified USB lead (as indeed you should no matter what the situation)...an Apple certified lead has a correctly chipped Lightning plug on it that will support any software updates & still work - unlike cheaper uncertified leads..
The packaging of such a lead will have the Apple "made for iPhone" type logo.
The Lightning tips on these leads & the right to use their logo are (apparently) actually supplied by Apple to manufacturers who meet Apple's criteria & are licensed by them.
That's the "not supported" aspect dealt with! Big Grin

I have done this myself & it works just fine! Wink

I bought one of these. Works very well and I can charge the phone and run a camera at the same time
