03 foxeye on a w reg? I'd be more concerned about that
As above W reg on a Foxeye is more of a worry as they were not manufactured until 2002 :eek
Are you sure its is a Foxeye not a boxeye. :rolleyes
Having said that, neither the W reg Boxeye or the 2003 Foxeye had coded red keyes. Both had just 2 copies of a plain one. Single key works ignition, petrol cap and seat lock.
As all previous comments
plus: are you really going to lose sleep over the colour of a key :rollin
Women have chocolate men have bikes.....
including ones who like chocolate....
Red key?
Am i missing out on something?
Mine's an X reg and a 2000 Boxeye model.
I want a red key now, my black one suddenly sounds boring.

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.
Zook - Are you referring to a W Reg (2000 model) or an 03 (2003 model) bike?
The boxeye was a 2000 model, the fox eye was up to 2003. 2003 was also the time that he FZ6 (the one with underseat exhausts) replaced the FZS600. The FZS600 only ever came with 2 black, non-chipped, keys. I have no idea about the FZ6 keys though.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again
the FZ6 should have an imobilizer although some of the very early ones for non UK markets might not have had them, when I bought mine in 06 I was told not to loose the red key or they would knock £800 the trade in price as without the red key any new black keys can't be programed and the ECU has to be replaced. Be careful though as you can buy a red key for a few quid off ebay ?
after reading this I am not sure what my bike is anymore lol, a box eye I think, on a w plate,.
sent from my carafan in tenby,
The point about the Red key on an FZ6 is that it's the only one that can code replacement keys. If you lose it and need a new key, you'll need to replace the whole ECU system which will cost you about a grand!
AFAIK the carbed Fazers don't have an ECU, so it's not an issue (BICBW)
Unless it's a typo, there is always the very small chance it's a more than likely Boxeye bike but with an upgraded/modded Foxeye fairing.

I agree, a boxeye with a foxeye fairing. I'd be more worried about why its been changed!
No need to worry about red keys anyway. If needed the black ones can be copied no problem on the FS models but if indeed it is a W reg bike the seller is correct in that they never had a red key.
Some people just prefer the look of the Foxeye and it has better headlights, so could have just swapped for that reason...
I suppose a photo of the bike would help (including reg?)
PM me the reg number and i'll tell you exactly what it is.
