I trimmed the bottom of the plastic filter off to gain a bit more tank range, though how much it improved things is hard to say as I didn't do any measuring.
yeah i did to mine aswell, seems like such a waste considering there is no reserve
they could of at least given him a happy face......not the shocked expression he has......
So that explains that when I am limping around with the fuel light on and then finally go to fill up there looks the be loads in there and I need not of been so "limp wristed" after all. So if you do find yourself out on petrol it could be worth trying the slosh whats inthere over and outdown the pipe
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
how far can you get with what is just in full float boals.....i.e. if you forget to turn the fuel tap open again?
ah ok, well i filled my laguna up with 5£ of petrol last week, got home ok and i read around the interwebs and it said with such as small ammount it is ok - not sure but we shall see as its now been fully topped up with diesel again :lol
took mine down quite a bit so i will get a few more miles to the tank! i too wondered why i had a fuel light yelling at me, i drained 4 litres out earlier and i still had a bit left and the fuel light was on... seems a bit early to be warning me i need fuel in the next 50 miles!
It reminds me of an old c50 we used to ride in the fields back in 1980 -ish the only way to get the thing to go was to take the spark plug out and fill the head up with petrol and bump it and it would go a surprising long way before it conked out, I dont know if it kick started the system a bit or that is how far you got on a head of petrol, strange that you would think it would be flooded --- but it worked

most of the junk will sit in the hole for the reserve and the rest wont get through because of the filter built in
What with a dead low fuel warning lamp that I've not got round to replacing and being in a bit of a rush, I forgot to check there was sufficient fuel for my journey this morning and the inevitable happened. While making "good progress" down the A331 the bike coughed, I realised my mistake and slowed to a more fuel efficient 45mph for a couple more miles until the bike spluttered to a halt on the off-ramp to Aldershot.
Turn ignition off and on again and shake the bike left and right and back and forth to try and slop some fuel over the intake before the pump gets bored and switches itself off. Repeat three times.
Restart and the bike gets me another half mile leaving just a 200m push to a petrol station. Which was more luck than I deserved. :o
Thanks to the lowered filter on the fuel tap and the extra hole in the filler neck to allow filling to a higher level than Yamaha originally intended, I can report a full-to-empty tank range of 269 miles and a fuel-up of some 20.5 litres… not bad for an 18 litre tank. :lol
thats not bad at all!
little mods make a big difference
With the tank stationary it takes 1.5 litres before fuel gets to the filter part of that stand up. You wont get all that by doing away with the stand pipe because there is about 0.2 litres in the depressions below the fuel tap fitting face level. Probably gain a bit over 1 litre in practice along with any water that might be in there from condensation etc. Any bits of rust ect should get caught with the in-line fuel filter and IMHO any water is probably better being burned off than staying in the tank. [/size]
so how do we burn the water off ????
do we fill to brim so water is floating at top and then put a lighted match to it :lol :lol :lol
waters wet, shit stinks !
