It is possible to do it solo - I did mine by myself a while back. As you say into top gear. I put the bike on the side stand and sat on it, put a breaker bar on the nut and then stood on the rear brake as I lifted the breaker bar up towards me. Its awkward but once the bolt is moving it comes off no bother Smile

I guess something through the back wheel against the swingarm would work instead of the back brake and being in gear?

Yep, I did mine exactly the same way, it's easily do-able if your careful.

Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

Will I need a new gasket. I'm guessing it's just to keep water etc out

I managed to change mine and re-use the old one, but they can tear when you remove them. if it does, then your better changing it (so maybe best to order one to be on the safe side?)

I might have a bit of gasket paper kicking around if it not to delicate a shape. I might have to resist using a ball pein hammer though lol.

My gasket ripped when I was changing mine but I just carefully scraped the old gasket off both surfaces & then re assembled with some gasket sealant, did the job fine & cheaper & easier than getting hold of an oem gasket.
Ps well worth doing the mod !

Anyone bought a new gasket and if from where, I believe the manual states 60Nm to tighten the pickup bolt.

Didn't bother with a new gasket. A bit of silicone sealant does the trick, as it physically doesn't hold any oil in the casing.
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

For the tiny cost (£14 off fleabay delivered) I bought one and fitted it yesterday. I'd just fitted a new gasket so it came away perfectly and I managed to get the bolt off just with the bike in gear and standing on the back brake whilst using a breaker bar. 10min swap over max. Torqueing it back up wasn't as easy but by using the same technique to tighten the bolt whilst holding the brake on eventually the wrench clicked (It is 60nm or 44ft/lb)

I wasn't expecting much of an improvement as I've never had an issue starting my bike but to be honest it fair leapt off the starter and ticked over very smoothly so........so far so good

I think this will be my next mod. I've noticed on my last ride that unless i blip the throttle a bit before pulling away the bike has a slow pick up. It's only a little bit slow but it's at the worst time, when I've got to the front of a queue and the lights change. I know about it so would normally blip it a bit but once in a while i forget to.

I struggled to find a gasket easily was probably going to have to be a genuine yamaha one,  so I just cleaned up both faces and put a thin coat of gasket paste on. So far no dramas all seems good.

Just done mine, dead easy really. I replaced my gasket.
