Adjust it a bit more and you may find the misterious 7th...

When I took mine off to polish I put my own mark on with a pen. I did see that it sort of lined up with the gap but did not know that was the official set up. I thought that you could position it where you was comfy and liked it within reason. Obliviously not then unless you don't want 6th.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

anyway, back to GEARS....I think its common pratice on most bikes to have the shaft marked for gearlever position....

Always a mark on the shaft, but some have a marks on the lever side also.
