Hey Brooker

Good to see you planning a Wales trip.

Just some ideas, obviously its your trip so ignore them if you like but coz youve asked.

When i get more time ill detail a few nice bits but for starters i'd avoid the M4 from Carmarthen onwards coz you can go from carmarthen eastwards through mid wales to llandovery & from then on theres a few nice routes to go either buith wells, newtown or from llandovery to brecon to abergavenny, until you get to Leominster, slimwilly is from Leominster so he can advise closer to there. But to do Wales on the M4 isnt any fun even if it is a direct route.

Also from Aberystwyth down the coast road to Cardigan if it's the end of the day you'll have some mega sun in your eyes and no visor or sun glasses will shield you enough it is really bad and because of the road and the coastal geography you dont get much respite from it, last time i had my arm fully extended forwards above my head like superman just to block it a tiny bit to see where i was going, the cars were all blinded too.....could be an idea to do the route in reverse to stop this because mid wales llandovery westwards at the end of a day isnt quite as glary from the sun due to more twisty nature and being inland there's more sun blocking suff like hills and trees.

Aberystwyth inland - A44 then A470 to Rhayder is a cracking road, and not much traffic.

Thanks for all the info. Taken into account. We will be at Cardigan for Early Afternoon so hopefully sun wont be an issue. M4 will deffo be avoided.

I cant see the detail on the screenshot of the map but it looks like you're now destined for Haverfordwest where i live via the Presseli Mountain road, i live on this road at the Haverfodwest end and it is stunning, presselis are steeped in history and linked to stone henge and the road is technical but very fun, a couple nice corners have gravel usually washed to the middle though. Its the B4329.turn off is after Cardigan and just after a village called Eglwyswrw, theres a Murco service station at the turn off.

Actually its a shame if you're in Pembs i cold recommend the coastal road from Haverfordwest to Newgale to St Davids to Fishguard and then back to Eglwyswrw but i appreciate that time is limited, if i happend to be off and the bike was fine then id be happy to lead yous around on that stage.

Yes, nice tour around you got there, the route will depend on the kind of riding you are doing, steady, looking around, stopping for pictures etc or zooming along enjoying the bends :lol

A49 is a major trunk road, South Wales to North Wales, so lots of traffic moving at about 40mph.

So some smaller roads with less traffic will actually be faster.

But i can sure sort some routes out,oh and stop by for a tea,,if i am not out with you already. Smile

Get to Pembrokeshire and do the coast road and the Preseli mountain roads, Gwaun valley is good too. And there's no speed cameras.

Brecon Beacons is scamera city, watch out for em.

Having said that, this is the best of the roads crossing the Beacons imo:

Not seen any scameras there yet.

from cardigan take the a484 then turn left onto b4570 until you get to N. Emlyn. take the a475 to lampeter then a482 to llandovery

oop north the a4212 from bala to dolgellau is a blinding road. (PB used to test there) and the b4391, used to be my personal test track.

the a470 between trawsfynedd and dol is speed trap city.

the a44 is  laugh but can be well policed.
