The paint work is old... at least 15 years possibly closer to 20. I will leave the bike like this through winter and then it'll gimme time to paint the other bodywork and finish of the abbreviated subframe.

Short ride to Bala and back, 66 miles, to drop something off at my mates house. A bite to eat at Tegid Cafe by the lake. I intended calling at the Ponderosa on the way back but it was raining so didn't bother.

105 miles total. Over to Llandudno, via Denbigh, St Asaph, then Rhos on Sea for dinner, called at the Ponderosa, Horseshoe Pass on way home. About 70 bikes there, including two Police bikes.

Modified a Mini brake master cylinder to work on the wife's kawasaki ELR trike project and made up new handbrake cables for it.

Nice shiny new maxxis diamonds fitted on the R1. Gone to a 180/55/17 rear instead of a 190. Lets see if it helps with the flickabailty Big Grin
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

After a short ride on the 180 tyre, it's looking promising. Turn in seems quicker, front/rear balance feels better, and bar end input seems a bit less for the bike to lean.

It'd be a good one for the fz1 boys to try should they want quicker steering 8)

Stripped the Thundercat down to balance the carbs. Tank off (full to the brim), airbox off, and dig around for the balance nipples but couldn't find them!

Yamaha in their ultimate wisdom have put some pipes from the back of the carbs and plugged them along the under side the frame where you can get to them. Even the balance screws were accessible without moving anything but lifting the tank!

So silly me removed all that for Bugger all reason!
You can balance the carbs in virtually minutes without breaking into a sweat.

Why the Hell don't they do that with all their bikes????

Busy week at the workshop, as well as customer stuff I have a list of stuff do to on my own bikes....

Did some work on Laura's Z trike

Replaced the rear master cylinder which could not be identified with one from a mini.

But the actuating rod is way too short.... Out with the welder and it's extended by cutting it in half and extending it using a section of steel pipe that used to be a skirt hanger in Laura's wardrobe. Bodgery at its finest.

While I'm at it I may as well fix the handbrake as the guy who did it originally was blind Pugh who farked it up right royally.God knows what the cables were but we got some Renault Clio ones and cut them down and fed them through some stainless adjuster bolts made by Jonny Fantastic, folded them back on themselves and clamped using a small u bolt and shackle to form a loop. One cable to go but at least it works now.....Until Laura breaks them again

Then coming out of Northampton at night Ella sounded louder than normal and considering normal for Ella is something like the sound of a warzone I deemed it to be an urgent fix before I came to the attention of the Bacon Boys....

This was the cause of the problem. The laughably inadequate baffle in the Vance and Hines drag pipe had finally given up

Managed to a get a little spare time this afternoon, much to my surprise, so headed on down to the garage to continue with the work on my ZS engine

Finally found the stupid little hole used to lock the engine in the safe position and aligned the timing marks and painted on some of my own marks for reference later. Got everything setup finally and went to begin replacing the links belts to find that I've lost the new set of belts... needless to say I'm not overly impressed with myself given that it's something like £220 a set

Was it on the clutch end after all?

Also, your belts are behind your door in your living room if you hadn't moved them since my last visit.  Wink

Yeah, the pin hole is behind the bell housing on the clutch side of the engine

Unfortunately, my belts are not where you believe them to be. I don't recall them being there before so...

I've gone through all the boxes in the flat without success so I'll have to try and turn the garage upside down as well Sad
