Today I removed my AIS with the aid of a holeshot kit, changed my coolant, and fitted a set of LED sidelights I found in a drawer. So it's out with this:

Went for a quick spin this morning, still need to get the front suspension right, still chattering over bumps. The Fabbri DB is a little better and reduces the wind blast/buffeting from my shoulders, but the wind noise around my head is a little worse. Fitted the wiring for my heated gloves when I got back.

Rode up and down the Trollstigen - what a road, almost alpine.

Checked my coolant levels after changing it and going a short ride yesterday, then went out a run across the dukes pass in aberfoyle and back.

Mickvp , how was removing the ais and how was the holeshot kit. I'm thinking of doing mine later in the year and looking for a bit of advice on how best to do it.
Cheers Andy
Hi Andy,
Doddle mate. Although the step by step guide on pats site is for the Ivan's removal kit, most of the steps are still the same so I followed that for the most part. The hole shot kit is very well made, one thing to bear in mind though is that you will need blue high temp locative for the grub screws (loctite 242), and you also need some copper based high temp gasket sealant as well which you stick in the aluminium bungs before fitting to make sure you get a seal. You will also need a few litres of coolant as well as removing the radiator is required for access. Really simple, a bit fiddly to get the AIS out from the top once all the pipes and bolts are off, but it just takes a bit of wiggling to get it oriented right to come out. It does give a good bit of extra space above the engine though, so it's worth doing if you want a wee bit more extra room in there, and a tiny weight saving as well. I've noticed the bike doesn't seem to pop and bang on a closed throttle as much since doing it, but I assume that's normal.

Put in new coolant after rad fuse blew and gushed out like a shaken bottle of coke,100000 miles on clock and was the first bit of bother from new.

I changed the hand made brass dog bone from a previous ownerthat gave the bike nearly a 2inch lift back to standard ones. then commuted 30 miles in the wind and rain

Fixed a slow puncture on the 1000 :'( and went for a high speed run on the 600.
