I can get fully synthetic 10w40 oil for nothing from work. Is this suitable for my bike? Its used for bull dozers but oil is oil isn't it?

Sure, if your Fazer is a diesel engined one with a dry clutch there shouldn't be any problem.
Otherwise, the additive package may not be suitable and buying 10W-40 with the word "motorcycle" on the carton is a safer bet.

+1 for bike specific oil.. semi synth for me personally.. Known quite a few to use regular oil without a hitch but wouldnt recommend it... Free oil does have a certain appeal tho

Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it..

Cheapest things you can put in your bike is oil and fuel. No point in risking screwing it up by putting the wrong oil in it.
I believe that car/plant oil have friction modifiers in them which knacker wet clutches up. Maybe read the manufacturers label and see what's in it.

Wor lasses diesel motor is a little low on oil - I had some spare from the bike I thought I'd use, but when I went to do it there was no mention on car/diesel/anything like that on the label, it only mentioned motorbikes, so thought safe bet to leave it out and get some proper car stuff for her.
