BKS Leathers

Thinking of buying this http://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/clothing/...white.html and the matching trousers, opinions on the BKS stuff please guys! Been wearing wolf leathers and textile gear for the last few years so lost touch with what BKS is like these days......

As far as I remember being told, the lower end BKS stuff is made by or along with Frank Thomas. Couple of my mates have had it in the past and report favourably. Someone else will probably have had some personal experience with it :-)

  I got the "London Vintage" jacket of theirs. I dont know about the one you're after, but this one is great. Its quite heavy, and feels well made. I had to take it to get altered, as I'm a dodgy size. When I collected it, the woman told me it was very well made. She specialises in bike leathers, so she should know.

Years ago the police apparently used BKS leathers, so would assume they're pretty rugged. Never owned a set myself though so no first hand experience.

Minor issue with that particular item is they've called it a 'Tiger' jacket, but put a picture of a lion on it!

A friend of mine has a set of black leathers for sale, worn about 5 times then he gave up biking:-\.
I tried them on, but the jacket was a bit too tight for me otherwise I'd have been wearing them. I think the jackets a 44, and the trousers are a 36 waist. Got some photos somewhere.

I believe he wants £80 for them if your interested.

There's two different BKS companies.

The original BKS are hand made in Devon, they'll do made to measure and they are the company that  made the police kit that you refer to. They're probably the best leathers you can buy & the price reflects that - they start at about £1,300 a set

The 'other' BKS was owned by Frank Thomas, they are produced in Asia I believe & apparently the original BKS owner sold them the rights to use the BKS brand name & provided some input into the designs.

After FT went bust J&S bought the brand name & are still selling them, I've not owned any of that range, but they are supposed to be good value at the price.

I've owned a couple of sets of the hand made BKS leathers (including  a barely broken in set of the police leathers bought off ebay) and the quality is outstanding with good thick leather, but a consequence of the great protection afforded is that they are pretty heavy. There's no way I'd want to have to wear a set whilst doing an 8 hour shift astride a pan-euro in central London during the summer, you'd bake!

I bought a pair of bks gloves a couple of years ago for 60 quid and im not over impressed with them. I put renapur leather treatment on them to try to soften the buggers up a bit but my hands still cramp up cos the gloves dont want to bend.
