Recommend me a bike.
Ive always had a thing for the Benelli TNT.

Shame its about as reliable as a menstruating woman  :rolleyes

I knew someone who was really pissed off cos his TNT spent more time on holiday in Italy than he could afford to  :lol

Noggy, if you buy new it will lose half its value in three years,or could,, and then you have a three year old bike :'(


so why not look for a three year old bike that never got used,,get it half price and laughing all the way to the bank.the bike will be as NEW,,,good sense and you know it. Smile

Tis a good plan slim....been lots o thoughts on such things.


Basically im asking the buying foccers if they dont mind hanging on til end of season to buy my bike in bits......my bike is booked for an mot on tuesday just find out once & for all....fingers crossed cheaply mot'd bike....enjoy rest of season.......& then buy during the winter when sales are slow...plus i can save more dosh coz thing with new kwak i can get 0%interest but i could also get that on a 2nd hand one with minimal miles through a kwak dealer and save circa 1 to 1.5k.


Also winter time i might get more chance of a min mileage bike being for sale.

Gen 1 or Gen 2, V - Twin, Tuono.


Perfect for the taller rider, great engine, reliability, tourability, tinker-ability and huge amounts of character.


It's also fast (enough) without feeling like  mega super-bike......... and they're cheap compared to a KTM/BMW 800 etc............. and hugely better than a TNT, with superb build quality and like here, an awesome on-line owners club (aprilia forum).

All about the finance though.


If i had the dosh id private buy a 3 year old bike with low miles.


But i aint got that,much dosh yet.


Plus there aint any 3 year old Z800's...only made 2013 onwards.


But who knows if i get a winning streak of overtime this winter then i might get enough cash in hand for a 1 or 2 year old.........so here's to the ill health of all my colleagues for my selfish gain :evil :evil :evil

If you're short of cash you can still get good Gen 1 Tuono's (my favourite version) for less than £3k.

I like the tono, i really do


But already discounted on basis of general reliability or at least reputational reliability isnt up to jap levels yet.


I see you have an Aprillia so maybe you beg to differ on this fact........how many high mileage Aprillias and particularly tuonos are out there....how robust are the electrics & do they tarnish quickly compared to jap stuff????

Reliability is definitely NOT an issue - I don't know anyone with an Aprilia who has had reliability problems.


Build quality is way ahead of our other bikes (we currently have another 4 Honda's, 3 Yamaha's, 1 Reiju and 1 Chinese copy of an XLR 125 in our garage). It's also better than our prior bikes.


Aprilia electrics are also as reliable as anything Japanese. Despite it being a big V-Twin, I've just today replaced my RSV battery - the first has lasted 11 years (always on an optimate when not running) and I've not even had as much as a bulb blow.


Aprilia's are NOT Ducati's.


After the RSV, our Honda's have always had the best build quality - but we've never had an unreliable bike in the last 25 years - if you look after them, they look after you  Smile

So basically a nice clean tuono.....(fighter)....only summer ridden and stored in a shed and dealer serviced should in your experience be just as reliable as a kwak or a yam????


If that's true then it could be back on the table.....ive bounced back and forward regarding it...i do still love the Z800 but i think the tuono will be more thrilling....& if it comes down to the start of next season & ive stripped my bike and ive got no bike to ride....& it's either buy a nice Tuono with cash or sign up to finance then the Tuono would get instantly approved me thinks...i dont need persuading about it's desireability...i do desire it.....i just want something i can ride every year with minimal arsing about.

Answering your specific points, there are plenty of + 50k mile Aprilia's out there and my RSV has tarnished far less than pretty much anything else we've had - it's not an R version, but it comes with plastic covered braided stainless steel brake lines (so do the Tuono's) and lively thick lacquer on the frame/swinging arm. On top of that, it's brake calipers (brembo's) don't seize at the first hint of rain.


To be fair, mine has been ridden quite hard (about 5000 miles on the Nurburgring) and it's been used for touring in Europe plenty and it's been totally reliable - I honestly don't think a GSXR or R1 would have survived the use in such good condition, still feeling "tight".


The "rumours" of un-reliability are just that. The UK Aprilia guru (Griff) used to do a column for Classic and Motorcycle Mechanics and knows the bikes inside out - ask him about reliability if you feel the need (Aprila Performance at Tamworth).

Sounds like you know what you're talking about.


Good thing is i could afford a "trick"  Tuono....the one with all the uber bling running gear & that was one of my original wants.


I've sat on one & instantly loved it...that particular one just wasn't clean enough for me so maybe i need to revisit this avenue & view a clean one with some decent miles under its belt to see for myself how they fare up over time.....& then buy one that's never seen rain or cold& has low mileage & fsh of course.
