Recommend me a bike.

Hey Dave, i think you're mixed up with thunder road (what a cool name)..they have 1 showroom in Newport which is Honda which ill go to on 13th plus another one in Bridgend.

J.T's though was impressive...compared to where i went yesterday the blokes were less geezerish & instead of fobbing me off in comparison the owner of J.T's was very happy to help & show me around & it was a much more relaxed atmosphere......J.T's are a yamaha & suzuki main dealer but they have a wide mix of everything else....he wasnt a bullshitter & was even telling me he doesn't particularly find the MT09 that comfy but then he was an older geezer & has the pick of any bike.

Didnt have an MT09....but had the MT07.....it does look tiny.

THe KTM & aprillia crew were there....aprilia shiver, KTM 950SM, KTM superduke, Aprillia Dorsodura......right then did i sit on them...no.....why....because you could tell the difference a few years had made to these machines...not high mileage but paint starting to flake & metal finish looking worn & tarnished.......which brings me to....

Aprillia Tuono....wow what nice looking bikes these are...hard to inspect the finish closely with the plastic.....had a seat...very very comfy & the bars sit perfect...legs weren't too squashed either....but peering through the plastic revealed a bit of grime & tarnish....even the noggyfighter looks cleaner after a good scrub so maybe that's just the way of things with these bikes.....i would consider a minted one......i can see how cool Stevies R1 would have been with fat wide bars.......it has got me thinking about how cool one of those Honda VTR1000 firestorms would be with wide bars....& i wonder who could do a conversion for me...worth a thought while I'm in dream land.

Also got to see the BMW F800.....very nice....bars slightly sporty...i liked it...but prob not enough of an upgrade from noggyfighter...more of a level peg.

So 1 step closer....

MT09 finances or pcp permitting.

Aprillia Tuono if i come across one immaculate enough.

Saw an mt-09 out and about today, it did look well, sort of naked sports/supermoto hybrid. They're just cool!

And as for the flat bar sportsbike conversion, there are a few companies that do it. I keep thinking of getting a newer R1, and building another one, but my FZ1 is basically an R1 with flat bars anyway. I just need the Ecu flashing, and it'll be there. The bugger is easily fast enough, comfy enough, and handles well enough to keep up with one on the road ;D

Stevie..i think you want me to get an MT09......you know what.......I think i'm gonna end up having one...the reasons are:-

By start of season next year i'm gonna really be looking at the 4k mark for a bike.......so old'ish bikes.....from what I've seen so far even low miles old bikes can and often do look a bit tatty.

Looking at my original requirements the MT09 suits them all.....it has the leg room...is grunty...not too much top end...doesn't have a fairing.....handles well.

But the price......circa 7.5K via finance....allot of money but cheap in comparison to most others.
Ok I've still to visit Honda & the one bike I do wanna see & ride from there is the CB1000r....ok it might be an awesome bike....best thing since sliced bread perhaps....but i'd only be affording an old one for circa 5k...still a used bike....because comparison bike v bike the brand new CB1000R is.......10 foccin K!!! :eek

so even if I did max out on finance and get a CB1000R.....what exactly am I getting for 3K more.....ok perhaps snobs will say greater reliability...but not 3k worth, if any,  as both bikes are unproven long term.....so what else....ok maybe a better pillion seat.

so put like that the MT09 is cracking value.
Now if i'm sensible with the finance & pump my 4k into the deposit instead of spending it on shite instead...then my monthly payments are potentially........£92.00 a month 8) .....so £92.00 for 36 months to own one of the latest bikes...hassle free A road blasting for 3 years.....no more foccing about all the time.....Christ the money I've spent on noggfighter probably averages out at about the same amount...I dread to think about it.

The MT should be a hoot....600 riders will aim for it as the 'I just smoked one of those new MT things' type bike & I welcome that.Bigger capacity bikes will be within range too...so fun with everyone it is please....around Wales it would be perfect I reckon.

So the Honda CB best have something special up its sleeve coz i'm looking likely to be cruising into MT territory on a Welsh road pretty soon....all I need is a decent test ride to confirm my thoughts & to choose the right dealer because I am guessing that they 'should' be able to lower the APR rate to a low risk person ie me coz im paying a vast deposit (any advice on this???)......JT's in Swansea today was really good..i appreciated the owner taking his time to show me round so i'd like to give him the business....but I need to be armed with what is possible before I start asking him to bump down the APR for me.
Another thing...if I wait til next season delivery then perhaps these reported concerns with the MT09 jerkiness on the throttle will be ironed out a bit.

Ha, ha. I just want you to get the bike that's right for you bud whatever that may be.
It definately does look like the mt-09 fits your needs, although the naked fz1 does the same in handling/braking/comfort, looks very similar, but is a bit revvier.

You've got to get out there and have a good long ride on 'em.

I gotta blame someone though....that's why I made this thread :evil

yep like you say...test rides are essential...one will blow my socks off....just a matter of which one.
but similar story to the CB1000R....like for like a brand new FZ1 naked is still 9K.
So those MT09's sure are good value

Have you considered a Kawasaki Z800? Similar power to the MT-09, £500 more though. Been following this thread with interest as I'm in exactly the same boat as you, fancying something brand new.

Mr Noggy, now myself i would not want a bike without some wind protection,,mainly because when i go touring it is quite good, especially when it rains, which it seems to when in France ,Switzerland and that wet place Wales :lol

Now i did have a Yamaha Virago many moons ago and for them there was the bolt on wind screens, powerbronze ect, they worked ok.

But as you know the MT09 would be a superb Sunday blatt out bike,, quite like em myself,,then you could miss the rain by staying at home. Smile

Quite like the thought of not riding in the rain. Smile

Always liked faired bikes...the look of them etc..........but cant deny that i feel more in control without one....plus if i ever lose control the damage is usually less. :rolleyes

Z800 i'd like to try...apparently real smoothe but back to inline 4....but possibly more soul than the CB1000R.but so thin on the ground for bike shops down here....i'll be up in scotland come June & within firing distance of lots if different dealers in the central belt so i'll prob do my test rides then...i'll take my old man so he can give his opinion on things i might miss.

Something I'm not a 100% sure about is the couple reviews about the MT09 rear shock not being the best......so i start off a thread basically because i want better handling & do t want to waste money.....is it then a bit silly to buy a bike that could do with an upgraded shock.....but then i have got by on a 13 year old budget fazer shock so i suspect that the shock that isnt 100% to bike testers could in fact be brilliant to me.

Also i see that Kawasaki have some really good finance rates....much lower finance rates advertised.

Foccin ell Mick...that's some device...looks like a cat about to piss up a tree :lol

Interesting ive now read about those Z800's & i like the sounds of them too now......that's what this thread is about coz i would never have considered one otherwise....a heavy beast at almost 250kg but all the reviews seem to point to it being very smooth & controllable with plenty power......but i wonder what it is like to sit on & whether the power delivery excites as much as the MT09.

I keep looking on you tube to find videos.....like Mt09 vs Z800....god there's allot of shit on there......loads of very strange foreign videos....on one i watched the bike comes round a corner & there's some knob on a set of roller blades with nordic walking poles powering up the winding alpine type road.....how you meant to focus on the bike with shit like that :lol

Another video.....MT09 vs CBR 600RR.....foccin ell i felt sick...guy on the cbr is so jolty & all over the place with splurges of power on the corners & crap braking, proper hanging off the bike like on twist of the wrist 2 but forgetting to actually try turning the bike...guy on MT09 following aint much better.

It's either that or some american droning on while he rides through a suburb, then goes on the motorway, pops a couple shit wheelies then goes home.

Anyone got any decent footage???, MT09, Z800,fazers, CB?

Personally my budget is £8500 max and I've narrowed it down to 5:

Kawasaki Z800

Suzuki GSX1250FA

Suzuki GSR750

Yamaha Fazer8

Yamaha MT-09

From all the reviews I've seen/read I know I'll be happy with any one, so (and here's my point) I'll just go with the most comfortable for my size.
I reckon of those on your list, you'll be happy with any as long as it fits you.  Smile

Think i've pretty much narrowed myself down to middleweights nowYe..so far for me

the MT was good.

I sat on the GSR....felt kinda fazerish actually...similar proportions & weight it seemed.

Z800......TBC.

FZ8.....a bit cramped .....possibly fine if jacked up....i jacked noggyfighter up for about 20 quid.

High on desireability chart are MT09 & Z800 now if i go brand new.

I love the look of a naked bike, but love the difference a screen or fairing makes riding in typical British weather even more mate.. Wink
